What makes us all tick
I strongly believe that animals—from hermit crabs to humans—learn best with positive reinforcement. Animals do what works for them, and the opportunity to earn rewards motivates behavior and engages their minds. A dog who is actively thinking about what he is doing and how he can get what he wants is a focused student who will learn faster and better than one who is worried about doing the wrong thing and getting busted for it.
A dog that is distracted, stressed, or overexcited cannot learn. Overcoming these challenges is a major focus of my work.
